Ad Centre: West 49 winners
[Message from Merrill Pierce, instructor, posted here. This is her announcement of West 49's selection of the winning concepts and designs proposed by our fifth semester GDA students. Congratulations to everyone for another great job for a very satisfied Ad Centre client.]
With much challenge and deliberation and considerable difficulty, West49 has decided to select three top winners and one honourable mention.
Cindy brought together a panel of marketing and advertising people together to review the materials - it took them almost a day to explore how best to make the concepts work within the confines of the West brand. Each group beautifully represented and expressed the brand with thinking that was far more advanced then they anticipated -- even went as far to say that they hadn't seen as good work coming from their agencies. In addition, each group took the task a step further which enabled the West team to examine how they might wish to evolve the brand for the future.
I want to personally commend and congragulate each of you for your initiative, your passion and your professionalism in developing an excellent representation for our class. I have tremendous pride and honour in being able to teach you and indeed look forward to what the future holds. See you in 2008!
Prizes and further information regarding next steps will be addressed when we return from the break... Have a safe and restful holiday!
Group #1: Kemar Lawrence & Daniel Devito
Client comments:
" they really captured the feel of the brand with the drawings etc. and inside cover. They did an amazing job with the design!" We loved the way the art was wrapped into the West49 word mark -- they really understood the brand -- want to take this forward with a few tweaks -- great presentation, in fact many of our team called it -- blow your mind creative"
Group # 2: Sarah Lott & Donna Tran
Client comments:
" really like their logo concept - separating "am and bition" - love the cover arrt and use of color -- mostly loved the fact that they challenged us as a client to think of different types of packaging -- even though we gave them the specs on the size, they came to us and presented something even better -- incredible initiative!"
Group #3: Jeffrey Rodrigues & Christian DeLeon
Client comments:
" spoke really well to the brand -- the logo addressed the skaters, the flow of the lines the colors...the idea of the graphic using the wings to tie in with the ramps was very clever -- great work"
Special Mention: Michelle Boake & Neil Lippert
Client comments:
" Very close call -- liked many pieces of both designs -- use of black graphic with skateboard was very strong as was the idea of doing more male/female skewed pieces was interesting"

Ad Centre: Dempster's Bread Winners
A message from Marilyn Cresswell, Ad Centre Director.
Our client has such a wide selection to choose from that it did make it very difficult for them to choose a winner.
Your enthusiasm and creativity were outstanding examples of what Humber students can provide.
Without your outstanding efforts, the AdCentre could not continue to impress the clients the way that each and every one of you do in your own way.
Graphic Design Group (GDA diploma students):
1. Breadhouse campaign
Danny Bang, Christian deLeon, Jeff Rodrigues, Eric Cerrudo
Top Advertising Groups (CABA degree students):
1. The lunch bag campaign -- Sarah Rutherford & Rick Silber
2. It's not just a phase -- Kristina Ferraro, Kira Lupp and Megan MacDougall
3. "Kids do the Darndest Things" -- Erika Pesek, Laura Noseworthy, Jana Wills
Congratulations to everyone for your great work!
A special thanks to Merrill and Richard for making this happen.
